Abstract

This paper constitutes a guide for the use of density matrix calculations necessary for the understanding of double-quantum coherence detection in NMR. In keeping with its didactic nature, the article follows in more detail than usual the evolution of the density matrix elements throughout single- and two- dimensional sequences applied to coupled carbon nuclei. The relation of the density matrix treatment with the vectorial representation is discussed.
