Abstract

Because of the nature of this workshop I will attempt to summarize what direct observations of supernova remnants tell us about these possible sites of nucleosynthesis and their contribution to metal enrichment in our galaxy. Very little of what I describe here is new but some of it is still in press and therefore relatively unknown. Many of the comments, particularly those on the optical properties, have been made in other contributions by Danziger and Leibowitz (1983) and Danziger (1983).
