Nucleosynthesis and Planetary Nebulae

Abstract

The chemical composition of planetary nebulae of different types are compared with those predicted from stellar evolution models for intermediate mass stars with 1 ≤ M/M⊙ ≤ 8. The agreement is in general good, nevertheless there are a few differences, some of the more conspicuous are: a) Type I PN show an anticorrelation between O and N abundances with N+0 ≃ constant probably indicating that some O has been converted into N; b) the C abundances of Type II PN and Type III PN probably indicate that the 3rd dredge-up is more efficient than predicted; c) Type IV PN present C excesses that are not predicted.
