Abstract
An increase which was followed by a decrease in endogenous ethylene production was shown in oat leaf segments during the later stages of senescence in light (Gepstein & Thimann, 1981); the rise in ethylene production occurred at the same time as chlorophyll degradation in leaves started. It was also shown that addition of ethylene or ACC to leaf segments hastened senescence while compounds which inhibited its production (AVG, Co2+, Ag+) delayed the process.
