Abstract
Focal liver lesions may be caused by tumor-like conditions, primary benign tumors, primary malignant tumors and tumor metastases. It is important to note that not only metastasis but also other conditions may be multiple, thereby mimicking metastases (1). This may occur in abscesses, hemangiomas, hepatocellular adenomas and hepatocellular carcinomas. The following discussion will be devoted to autopsy data available on liver metastases, staging of liver metastases, and to the diagnostic cytological and histological aspects of this problem.
