Abstract
Generally speaking, an acute inflammation consists of three major events that take place at the site of inflammation: The exudation of plasma components, the egress of white blood cells from the vessels and the reaction of the connective tissue. The relative proportion of these three elements is the basis for the variability of the inflammatory processes. An investigator dealing with acute inflammation has to select which one of these elements he wants to investigate and has to choose the appropriate model accordingly. There is no one method suitable for the evaluation of the entire inflammatory process, but each single method aims specifically at the measurement of a particular element of inflammation.
