Abstract

Strictly speaking, a display is any device or event which gives information about a situation which is occurring or has occurred. In this sense the movement of the bed of a grinding machine is a display, since it gives information to the machinist about the progress of his job, while the sound of the grinding wheel and the nature of the stream of sparks coming from it may act as auditory and visual displays, giving him information on whether the amount being ground is correct.
