Tissue and cell culture of viruses

Abstract

Although viruses cannot be grown in a synthetic or cell-free culture medium, the cell, which after all is the nurse to the virus, can be so propagated. This procedure, loosely known as ‘tissue-culture’ affords great opportunities for the investigation of cell-virus relationships.
