Abstract
The ordinary idea of a product in scalar algebra, the mere multiplication of scalars, cannot apply to vectors because of their directional properties; nor is it possible to decide by deductive reasoning what form the product of two vectors should take. Since vectors have their origin in physical problems, definitions for the products of vectors must be devised that will be consistent with the way in which such products occur in applications to physical science.
