Effects of Saturation and Eddy Currents on Machine Performance

Abstract

The theories developed in Chapter 4 depend on the assumption that the magnetic material is unsaturated and that all fluxes are proportional to the currents producing them. Using the principle of superposition the equations are deduced by first finding the effect of individual currents and then superimposing all the effects. Although saturation is in practice very important, the equations obtained by neglecting it can often be used in performance calculations by determining effective constant parameters applicable to the particular problem.
