Abstract
Formulae of the great majority of known organosilicon compounds can be written as R n SiX4-n, where R is an alkyl or aryl group, and X is some functional atom or group. They are therefore appropriately named as derivatives of monosilane, SiH4 [23]. Important related types include cyclic organosilicon compounds, e.g. 1,1-dimethyl-1-silacyclohexane (2.1), and carbon-functional derivatives, e.g. 2-(trimethylsilyl)-1-ethanol (2.2).
