Abstract
The last ten years has seen an explosive increase in the use of vasodilator pharmacology in anesthesia and critical care. This utilization has principally come in the areas of induced hypotension, control of hypertension and afterload reduction to improve cardiac output and systemic perfusion. In relating this discussion to this course, concentration will be placed on the use of the various vasodilators as afterload reducing agents.
