Abstract
Interpretation of regional and detailed seismic data from the Trænabanken lease area has identified a ‘flat spot’ in Lower Tertiary strata on the northwestern flank of the Helgeland Basin. This anomalous seismic event is located on the crest of a broad, NNE-trending anticline in block 6610/10 and is evident on several vintages of seismic data. The results of special seismic processing, including inversion and analysis of seismic attributes, indicate that the ‘flat spot’ might represent a gas—liquid contact. The occurrence of this feature suggests that the Lower Tertiary section in the Helgeland Basin contains potential reservoirs and that hydrocarbons have been generated in the Trænabanken area.
