Abstract
Since agriculture started there has been a continuous battle between man and pests. After the second World War chemical pesticides came into general use. Their efficiency was obvious and their side effects seemed to be small. Some thought that man had developed the ultimate weapon against the pests. A new industry developed and is still growing, supporting powerful multinational companies.
