Abstract

We have sought to show that the form of the artwork is not a mere vessel for it but rather the sustainment of its life. Art owes its existence to the possibilities for form inherent in the materials it addresses itself to, from whatever source in sense and imagination these may be drawn. Exploration of these resources and their transformation by the processes of composition await the vision and apprehension of the artist. The concept of coherence enables us to characterize the outcome, making one of the principal values we hope to derive from concourse with art.
