Measurements of Nighttime NO3 and NO2 in the Stratosphere by Matrixisolation and ESR Spectroscopy

  • Conference paper

Summary

NO3 and NO2 mixing ratios at 33–29 km altitude were determined during nighttime and early morning. The measurements were made ESR spećtroscopy on samples collected in situ by matrix isolation. The species NO3 and NO2 were identified and quantitated by comparison with standard samples collected in the laboratory under typical stratospheric conditions. Results of two balloon flights are presented. The flights were carried out over Southern France (44°N) in September 1983 during the MAP Globus Campaign. The data obtained agree with time dependent model calculations and measurements of other groups.
