Abstract
The problems connected with the “reference earthquake” selected for antiseismic design of Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) present aspects which can be schematically subdivided into geological-naturalistic aspects and engineering aspects. There is still much to be clarified concerning the two aspects; however it is considered that the main knot to be untied is the point of contact between the two aspects mentioned.
