Abstract

The present chapter is concerned with reactions involving olefins and acetylenes without the presence of extra reagents. The early Sections are concerned with dimerisation, oligomerisation and polymerisation, all of which involve the creation of new carbon—carbon bonds and require catalysts. These reactions, particularly polymerisation, are major commercial reactions, which has spurred interest in looking for new and better catalysts. In describing developments in these reactions we have not attempted to be comprehensive, but rather to give an outline of more recent developments together with associated references which the reader can use as an introduction to the more recent literature.
