Cell Culture, Somatic Embryogenesis and Plant Regeneration in Wheat, Barley, Oats, Rye and Triticale

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Agricultural Biotechnology ((AABI,volume 15))

Abstract

Members of the Gramineae, in particular wheat, rice, barley and maize, are prominent amongst the major crop plants of the world. For many years they have been the subject of detailed scientific studies and much has been learnt of their genetics, biochemistry and physiology. Now, with the recent development of molecular biological techniques, the potential application of in vitro genetic manipulation procedures to these species is being contemplated (120).
