Micronutrient fertilizers and fertilization practices

Abstract

Increased knowledge acquired during the past 25 years about plant requirements, sources, and most effective methods of applying micronutrients has increased their use in many regions. Higher crop yields, usually resulting from higher rates of NPK fertilizers, also may have increased needs for micro-nutrients. In addition, the dramatic shift in the tropics to higher analysis fertilizers such as urea, triple superphosphate, and diammonium phosphate, has decreased the amounts of some micronutrients applied to the soil as fertilizer contaminants.
