Abstract
The title of the conference is “Postoperative Evaluation in Middle Ear Surgery” and I would like to emphasize the word “evaluation”. In the process of evaluation we always compare. In order to be able to compare and thereafter to evaluate, it is obvious that the terminology used by all those who participate in the process of evaluation should be standardized. One of the main purposes of your conference is “to produce a truly international standard for reporting and computer processing of the results of middle ear surgery”. Therefore, the main aim of the conference is not only to exchange views and opinions of the scientific and technical aspects of middle ear surgery, but to make a step forward in the standardization of terminology and to try to improve communication in otology and medicine at large.
