Mechanism of action of gonadotrophin releasing hormone in the pituitary and gonads

Abstract

Gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) stimulates luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) biosynthesis and release from pituitary gonadotrophs. Paradoxical antifertility effects of GnRH analogues in vivo demonstrated that GnRH also exerts direct stimulatory and inhibitory gonadal effects1–13.
