Abstract
The previous three chapters have been concerned with various aspects of the analysis of samples from populations, these consisting of either living or dead animals. In the present chapter attention is turned to situations where the action of selection can be observed directly on a group of individuals. The particular interest is in cases where the survivors are recorded after certain specific amounts of selection time. By its nature, this type of data is unlikely to be available for a wild population. However, as will be seen, this can occur. More commonly, such data will arise from a laboratory experiment, or from a controlled field experiment.
