Abstract

This paper is prepared to formulate an interactive computer-aided design education and research model for the establishment of a micro computer-aided design laboratory in Istanbul Technical University (ITU). The first part of the model is designed for CAD education considering the student, personnel and organization capacities of ITU. In the second part CAD research is modelled in regard to the staff and expert capacities of the University. In this study the term CAD research is taken as the research on the knowledge base of expert system for the purpose of Artificial Intelligence. Two parts of the model, the theory building in CAD research and the application of the theory in education, are planned to work in interaction with each other. The details of the model with proposed specific problem areas are explained as a guide for future studies.
