Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 123))

Abstract

The spatial gradients (field-aligned, longitudinal and latitudinal) in solar flare energetic particle events are described in terms of their occurrence in the three phases of the event (rise, maximum and decay). The information that can be derived from these phases is discussed in the context of the Ulysses mission.
