Abstract
We can study galaxy evolution in two ways. One is to use lookback time and redshift to investigate, say, the luminous output of brightest elliptical galaxies, Lv(t). Aside from observational difficulties, there are some general problems obscuring this astronomical window into the past. One has to connect the present to the past, the current epoch elliptical with its precursor or precursors at redshifts of 1 or 2.
