Large Scale Ionized Gas in Radio Galaxies and Quasars

Part of the Astrophysics and Space Science Library book series (ASSL, volume 121)

Many early-type active galaxies and quasars are surrounded by extensive regions of low density, highly ionized gas which can be considered the analogy of the much smaller Narrow Line Region in the spiral Seyferts. Observations of this gas carry information about the galaxy and its active nucleus and can now be interpreted in the context of X-ray observations of hot gas and 21 cm observations of cold gas in the same systems.
