Abstract
When measuring the mass of an offshore module accurate and reliable results must be obtained. Besides the mass also the position of the centre of gravity is of vital importance when the object has to be lifted or when transportation on a barge is necessary.
Reproducibility and measurement accuracy are of increasing importance to measurements for the offshore industry.
The various items that affect the measurement accuracy will be discussed. A method will be given for the determination of an overall uncertainty, including the standard deviation of the measured data.
A standardized weighing procedure will be described, underlining stable and reproducible loading conditions to obtain good statistical reliability.
The calculation methods will be discussed for a measurement system in use for field measurements.
