Abstract
Sub-Saharan Africa has some of the lowest rates of fertilizer consumption in the world. Between 1979 and 1982 its share of world nitrogen consumption was about 1.0% and its share of the developing countries’ nitrogen consumption about 2.5%. Its share of P2O5 use was between 1% and 2% of the world total and between 4% and 8% of the total for the developing countries [7].
