Abstract
Because of the occurrence of brown rot, water melon plants in the Cukurova region cannot be irrigated after fruit set. Nutrient uptake by the plants is of course impeded by this shortage of water in the soil. This has a negative effect on the plants’ vegetative and generative development, so that yields are reduced and fruit quality is poor. It would be desirable to feed these plants via the leaves.
