Abstract

The Toxic Oil Syndrome (TOS) is a new disease that appeared in Spain in 1981 following the consumption of adulterated rape-seed oil. The disease is characterized by an acute onset of pleurocarditis, fever, rashes and eosinophilia. In a number of cases it had a chronic outcome, characterized by an evolution through different phases: acute, intermediate and chronic, with an overlapping of a neuromuscular syndrome, a scleroderma-like picture, Raynauds phenomenon, pulmonary hypertension and Sjogren syndrome.
