Abstract

d-Transposition of the great arteries (d-TGA) is the most common form of transposition complexes. In this situation the right sited aorta emerges from the anatomic right ventricle and the pulmonary artery from the anatomic left ventricle. As a rule, the aorta is anterior to the pulmonary artery and the anatomic right ventricle is situated to the right of the anatomic left ventricle. There is thus ventriculo-arterial discordance. An intra- or extracardiac shunt, usually a shunt at atrial level, constitutes an obligatory associated abnormality. Additional anomalies at septal, valvular and/or arterial levels, may be associated.
