Abstract
One important thing to note about conducting DOER for an operating educational system is that many factors affect the likelihood of whether this kind of work will be successful. Degree of client orientation is an example of such a factor. If a client orientation is not present, the results tend not to be of interest to the potential consumers of the produced information. Another factor is the extent to which those conducting DOER are willing and able to be methodologically eclectic, so that research methods can adapt to the problem as defined rather than defining the problem in ways that can be solved with preferred methodology. The third major factor we have examined thus far reflects the degree to which the DOER system is closely linked to the action system, so that the information produced will more directly influence what happens.
