Part of the book series: Immunology and Medicine ((IMME,volume 2))

Abstract

Diseases of the periodontium are among the most frequently occurring human afflictions. Based on the age of onset, distribution of lesions and rate of progression, most patients can be classified as having mild or severe periodontitis. In juveniles the distribution of the disease may be either localized or generalized and may progress rapidly or slowly in either case. Clearly the generalized rapidly progressive is the most severe form. The forms of juvenile periodontitis are described later in this chapter.
