Functional Assessment of Hepatocytes after Syngeneic Transplantation into Rat Spleen

Abstract

Isolated hepatocytes transplanted into the spleen of rats proliferate. 6 – 24 months after transplantation a morphological structure can be observed comparable to that of a normal liver. Only little is known on the functions of the ectopic liver in the spleen (1, 3). We therefore have investigated the activities of liver enzymes of different metabolic functions and intracellular localisation in the hepatized spleens.
