Abstract

Among the responsibilities of the executives charged with developing sources of revenue for a steamship company, none is more exacting than preparing the traffic study. This is a systematic compilation of data concerning one or more of the many problems related to selling the service the ships are intended to provide. It may be concerned with major aspects of traffic management, such as commencing service on a new trade route; it may be limited to a simple matter of determining the most attractive color scheme to be used in redecorating the passenger spaces. In either case, it is a methodical procedure by which to reach a decision affecting the earning capability of the ships.
