Part of the book series: Series Entomologica ((SENT,volume 39))

Summary

1. The limnephilid caddisflies of the Stenophylax group which had a Central European ancestor evolved in the Mediterranean Region in connection with the summer-dry conditions of streams.

2. Later several species of this group were isolated in high mountains and adapted their life cycles accordingly, and some of them became brachypterous.

3. Other species of the group extended their areas northward and lost their summer dormancy stepwise with the latitude.

4. Some isolated populations of the Mesophylax aspersus complex reduced their spur number from 134 to 122.

5. Some southern populations of Potamophylax species which are widespread in Europe changed their wing coloration independently from each other from dark brown to yellow.
