Abstract
Expert Systems are computer programs which store expertise and judgemental knowledge for the purpose of guiding users through evaluations or diagnoses. Expert System Software tools are becoming readily available, so a wide range of projects are now possible at reasonable cost. This report reviews the needs of the industry and recommends the following six research topics which are most likely to result in practical applications and useful technology.
