Abstract

Some basic information about gamma ray observations by ground-based techniques are given. In the energy region from 1011 eV to 1014 eV the Cherenkov light produced by the cascade particles in the earth’s atmosphere can be received at ground. For energies greater than 1014 eV the particles of the cascade can be measured by detector arrays. The flux sensitivities of typical installations are presented.
