The Laboratory Spectrum and Atomic Structure of Fe II

  • Conference paper
Physics of Formation of FeII Lines Outside LTE

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 138))

Abstract

The atomic structure of Fe II is presented in terms of configuration systems, configurations, spectroscopic terms and levels. Allowed transitions between different pairs of configurations are deduced from the known term structure and related to the observed spectrum. The spectral lines are grouped together in transition groups, transition arrays, supermultiplets and LS-multiplets. Transitions violating the selection rules are briefly discussed. The representation of observed and predicted Fe II lines in Multiplet Tables is reviewed.
