Abstract
Snow grain properties and microstructure are measured from stereological section planes prepared from snow specimens. Stereologic relations are used to estimate the distribution of ice grain and pore sizes and the surface-to-volume ratio of the ice phase. Sampling design and strategy are discussed in the context of seasonal snow packs.
