Abstract

The intention of this paper was to give a short critical review on the physical conditions in molecular clouds. Sufficient references for further studies are also given. A reasonable description of dark clouds can be summarized as follows: 1. They are in viral equilibrium. 2. The temperature is higher at the edge of the clouds. 3. The density structure is close to r-1.5. 4. Molecular abundancies are a function of the position within the cloud. 5. Magnetic fields play a major role. 6. The velocity field is due to waves or some other type of small scale motions. 7. Star formation is present in many clouds; these young stars produce bipolar outflows. The physical conditions of hotter molecular clouds are quite uncertain.
