Abstract
It is postulated that a biological endpoint measured under equilibrium or semi-equilibrium conditions will be less sensitive to lipophilicity than one further removed from equilibrium. Data for the toxicity and biodegradabilityof a group of chlorophenols with reference to a pure microbial culture are provided in support of this hypothesis, as are other toxicity data obtained from the literature.
