Abstract

Calibrations and Predictions of Nitrogen, Oil and glucosinolates content in whole rapeseed kernels were made by use of a research near infrared spectrometer (P. Sci - Mark II).

The calibration equations were developped on a large population of samples, analysed by the reference method ( protein : KEJDAHL - oil : SOXHLET - glucosinolates : HPLC - GC).

Oil, protein and glucosinolates content could be estimated with high correlation and accuracy.

  • For oil : a multiple correlation coefficient (r) of 0.98 and a standard error of estimated values (SE) of 0.53 were obtained by using 4 wavelengths after the transformation of the data (log l/R) in second derivative.

  • For protein : a multiple correlation coefficient (r) of 0.97 and a standard error of estimated values (SE) of 0.29 were obtained using 4 wavelengths after the transformation of the data (log l/R) in second derivative.

  • For glucosinolates : after the transformation of the data in first derivative, a coefficient of multiple correlation of 0.98 was observed, as well as a standard error of estimated values of 3.0 micromoles/g of seeds for samples analysed by HPLC and 3.6 micromoles/g of seeds for samples analysed by GC. The wavelengths retained were 1636 - 1624 - 1640.

We conclude that N.I.R.S. allows an accurate prediction of the quality parameters of whole rapeseed.
