Abstract

Agrobacterium rhizogenes is the causative agent of the hairy root disease of dicotyledonous plants (1), consisting in an abundant proliferation of adventitious roots at the site of bacterial infection. The inducing organism is a gram negative soil bacterium belonging to the same genus as A. tumefaciens, responsible for the insurgence of the well characterized crown gall tumours.
