Abstract
For those who are interested in predicting the average quantities associated to a turbulent flow, the main difficulty comes from what is called the “closure” problem, which arises from the non-linearity of the Navier-Stokes equations: for instance, when averaging these equations, one obtains the well known Reynolds equations (previously obtained by Barré de Saint-Venant and Boussinesq (see [18])).
