Phenotype of γ-Interferon Producing Leukocytes

  • Chapter
The Biology of the Interferon System 1986

Abstract

Although human gamma interferon (IFNγ) is a well-defined lymphokine of central importance for the immune system, the cellular origin of its production still remains to be determined. This question has until now been studied either by enriching or depleting IFNγ-producing cells in unfractionated cell cultures, as well as by scrutinizing IFNγ synthesizing cell lines and hybridomas. These approaches have, however resulted in incomplete information.
