Abstract
Information services for Urban Governance has become a major administrative activity. Ninety percent of all countries and ninety seven percent of all cities over 50,000 population are involved with computerized information services. Expenditures are in excess of $400 million annually. There are currently over 40,000 persons employed in these services by county and local government. Research at The University of California, Irvine, has indicated that in the majority of instances computerized information processing has reduced costs of government, has increased speed and ease of government operations, has increased cooperation and is proving useful for decision making. This research also found that staff is not usually reduced. Also, information technology will become even more influential and important than it is now.
