Abstract

Bonding as a means of manufacture is being used more and more widely in industry due to its technological and economical advantages. Some successful feasibility studies have been done, such as using the bonding technique in car manufacture, fabrication of machine tools, and fabrication of sealed covers of motor generator units. However, this fabrication technique has scarcely been investigated in relation to the fabrication of cutting tools. This chapter deals with the application of this technique in the fabrication of carbide tipped end mills. Also, a comparison of the cutting performance of the bonded end mills with that of the brazed one has been carried out. This assessment is based on cutting tests performed with both tools which have a helix angle.
