Abstract
Chemical fly control on heifers is frequently used in Europe as a preventive measure against summer mastitis. This paper warns against the potential development of resistance in cattle visiting flies, following the extensive use of insecticides. Several mechanisms of resistance have already been reported in Haematobia irritans from different parts of the U.S. Some recommendations are given in order to decrease the rate of development of resistance.
